Welcome to the Citizen Advocacy Trust of Australia

cataImagine a life over which you have little control. You have no say in where you live, who you live with or what you do each day and most of the people in your life are paid to be there.

This is the experience of many people with an intellectual disability.

The Citizen Advocacy Trust of Australia believes that enduring relationships have the best capacity to protect people with an intellectual disability from harm and provide a sense of belonging to, and connection with, their community.

The mission of Citizen Advocacy Trust of Australia is to provide a source of independent funding to Citizen Advocacy Programmes throughout Australia. These programmes find vulnerable people with an intellectual disability and match them, one on one, with people (citizen advocates) in their community. Citizen advocates then act in the interests of the person with disability, and volunteer to befriend, protect, act and speak up on their behalf.
